The New Guy

First let me say that I am not completely new at fire fighting. I was on a completely volunteer fire department a few years ago. That be said, I have moved to a bigger town that has what is called on call fire fighters. They have a couple of guys who are at the station at all times but other then that, the rest of us are going about their daily lives.
The purpose of this blog is that I am going to chronicle the experiences of what I face as well as what my brothers and sisters on the department face. You can feel free to send me your stories, as I am interested in hearing those as well.
Now, I just joined the department and I have been a member for 1 week and 1 day. Let me introduce myself as Milford 820. Milford Fire Rescue is a small station that covers the town of Milford, Maine. It has mutual aid agreements with Greenbush, Old Town and the town of Bradley. There is not an ambulance service in Milford, so whenever their is a medical call, Old Town Fire sends an ambulance, and Milford Fire Rescue sends our rescue truck (Milford 808) that will have an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) on board.
My first call was as we were getting ready to head on over to Old Town Fire for a training on their Aerial (ladder truck). I was riding along in Milford 808 (Rescue Truck) and we no sooner cleared the doors when the tones went out. We had to go to a residence where a young man had hit his head and needed to go to the hospital. I stayed outside as I am not an EMT and there were two that were on the truck with us, so I just did what I could (stay out of the way) outside.
So far this has been my only call but I am sure that there will be much more interesting ones in the future. Stand by for updates and let me know what you think. Also, In accordance with the privacy laws, I will not be posting specific details regarding people. Just details about the experience pertaining to me as a firefighter! I will be respecting the privacy of those that I am serving!
